The first and foremost factor to the birth of the theories of leadership is the inherent characteristics of successful leaders who lived in past years. Examples: Lord Buddha, Mahatma Gandhi, Napoleon Bonaparte, Anagarika Dharmapala Thuma and Abraham Lincoln, etc. The theories of approaches to leadership are trait theory, behavioral theory, contingency theory, and contemporary theory.
